Proper Clothing at the Range

Proper Clothing at the Range

If you have ever visited a range, someone should have emphasized the importance of proper clothing while at the range. Spend time shooting, and you find out in person of the importance of wearing protective gear while on the range.

Don’t get me wrong, ranges are very safe places, however, due to the face of what is occurring, small projectiles being fired at high rates of speed, splatter can occur. This is not a ricochet, but small pieces of the bullet after it has broken up, may come back at the shooter or those on the range. Most of the time, they never break the skin, however, this is why proper clothing is “required” while on the range. “Hot Brass” is also a possibility that can occur. Hot brass is the left over brass case that is ejected by semi-automatics and many rifles. It is very often extremely hot, and will burn if it touches your skin. This is mostly an issue if you are wearing low cut shirts, or other types of clothing that the brass can get caught in.

Why would anyone want to go to the range after reading all of that? Like any sport, or hobby, there are risks, and you need to know them. If you play golf, there is a “risk” of being hit with the ball or club. Baseball, there is a risk of being hit by a ball or loose bat.

What is Proper Clothing at the Range:

  • Closed toe shoes
  • Long pants or jeans (with exceptions when extremely hot outside)
  • Semi-loose shirts, not low cut
  • Hat preferred, even when indoors (baseball cap, etc.)
  • And of course, proper hearing and eye protection

Remember to vote Tuesday November 8th 2016

Remember to vote Tuesday November 8th 2016

If you didn’t vote during early voting, please remember to do so tomorrow. Of course, vote for those who will help preserve our 2nd amendment rights. Not sure who those are? Visit https://www.nraila.org/about/election-center/

However, when you do go vote tomorrow, a few things you should leave at home or in your vehicle:

  1. Don’t wear any candidate specific clothing, buttons, etc.
  2. You can’t use your phone in the voting booth, so know who you are voting for before you go
  3. and always, at least for Texas, you can’t carry your Texas LTC handgun with you into the polling place. Don’t even think about. Some areas are posting 30.6, but it isn’t needed, but I guess a good reminder.

Remember that you can’t carry your Texas LTC handgun when voting!

First Night as USPSA Match Director

First Night as USPSA Match Director

Our weekly match this week at http://www.shilohidpa.com/ needed a match director at the last minute. I volunteered with the understanding that I only had a few days to put stages together and that they wouldn’t be extremely “fancy” stages.

All in all, it was a great night! It was also a learning experience, but it was also one of my best performances. Overall, I was 2nd out of 15, and beat out many other great shooters.

It just goes to show, that a challenge can be a great opportunity, and even though it is tiring, it can bring the best out in you! It also shows that, after solid training, you may do better by not over thinking each stage when you are competing.

Quality Texas LTC Classes Training

Quality Texas LTC Classes Training

Texas LTC instructors are now using groupon and other mass selling avenues in order to sell their services for teaching Texas LTC Classes. While there isn’t anything wrong with this, in my mind it is a disservice to the students. Here is why: What is more important, filling the seats in the class, or making sure that each and every student recieves top quality training? DoubleActionCHL believes that ladder. I would rather have fewer students who receive quality training, compared to a full class room, period.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to have both. DoubleActionCHL ISN”T the cheapest! At a 6 hour class room we AREN’T the quickest class either. However, we, and the instructors that we teach with, believe that we do offer the best Texas LTC training that you can receive. Don’t believe us! Or students do when the class is over. Often we receive a 5 out of 5 stars rating from our students.

Sign up today for one of our classes and find out for yourself!

Practice with your BUG or the Pistol that you Carry

Practice with your BUG or the Pistol that you Carry

The Shiloh IDPA weekly match was a BUG match, or a Back Up Gun. The premise of a BUG match is to try and make you practice with the LTC, CCW, CHL pistol that you carry for personal protection, or the back up pistol that you carry. Since IDPA and USPSA are sports, often the participants use guns that they only use during these matches, and they may be modified in order to help them be more competitive.

The issue, is that they are not carrying their specially modified guns for their protection, or many of them are not. During our BUG match last night, I took first place (if you subtract two people who were not using pistols that qualified as “BUG” as they were too big). While I am boasting a little bit, here is my point. One of the other competitors, a good friend of mine, said “That isn’t fair, you are using the gun you compete with every week!” My response, “No, this is my carry gun, but it is what I competed with for over a year and half. It isn’t my fault that you don’t practice with your carry gun!”

When is the last time you have practice with your carry pistol? Not only taken it to the range to shoot 50 rounds through it, but really practiced with it in a scenario type situation? Like the old Wolf Brand Chili commercials, “Well that’s too long!”

I challenge you to bring your carry pistol to one of our IDPA nights and truly practice with your carry gun, in a safe environment, with just a “little” pressure. Get good at shooting the tool that might one day save your life!

Visit http://www.shilohidpa.com/ for upcoming dates. We would love to see you there, or find a local club that is closer to you.
